Commonly Asked Questions

What type of radiation is more prevalent in a car: magnetic fields or electrical fields?

Low frequency electromagnetic fields are definitely the most common in the cars. The origins or the EMF sources are the engine, coil, dashboard (panel), and heated seats.

In low frequencies the electromagnetic fields splits to two different forces, electric fields and magnetic fields. The electric fields can be reduced with suitable fabric, such as the hoodie and pant you are interested in. However, this is not the case for magnetic fields. There is nothing that you can wear for shielding from magnetic fields.

With high frequency, once you eliminate the electric fields the magnetic fields would also be eliminated. Therefore our EMF shielding clothing will eliminate both of these sources for you.

The cause of high frequency sources in the car might be Bluetooth connection, cell phone, cell towers around the area that you are driving, etc.

I would like to add a sheet of shielding material under my mattress to protect against low frequency electromagnetic fields, what do you sell for that?

We recommend 2 items to shield you from LF electromagnetic fields in your bed:

a)  LF shielding fitted bed sheet TL160 – This shielding sheet can fit a double to a queen size mattress. It has an attenuation 40 dB at Low Frequency and 5 dB at 1 GHz. It comes in gray and brown and is made of 48% cotton, 36% polyester, 14% silver, 2% Elastane. Machine washable and requires the ESV Grounding Kit as the sheets have a surface conductivity of 20.0 ohm.

b) LF Shielding - NCV95 - This fine carbonized polyester fleece is perfect to place under your mattress for low frequency shielding. It has an attenuation of 80 dB. Comes in black and possesses a strong tensile strength and is sold by the meter. This shielding material also requires the ESV Grounding Kit to electrically ground it.

I work at a job where there are a lot of computers, WiFi signals, and electronics; how can I protect myself?

We would recommend using our EMF clothing products to protect you while you are at work. To shield your head and brain area, a good option is the EMF Protection Cap (four colors available) or the EMF Protection Headgear. For the rest of your body, you may want to consider our EMF Shielding Hoodie or our EMF Shielding Long Underpants. All of our clothing products will block 99.99% of the EMF radiation from being absorbed by your body in the protected areas, and are very stylish and work appropriate.

I need an effective way to shield my walls and windows from cell tower RF/HF radiation, what can use?

We strongly recommend the NEW-DAYLITE Fabric with an attenuation of 25 dB at 1 GHz OR the NATURELL Fabric with an attenuation of 35 dB at 1 GHz. Both of these fabrics are ideal for being transformed into curtains. Both are machine washable, semi-transparent fabrics that are great ways to protect you and your loved ones in an easy way.

I need to block Wi-Fi from my neighbors, how do I do this?

To shield from your neighbors Wi-Fi, you need to shield yourself against HF radiation. Identify the direction in which the HF radiation from the Wi-Fi router is coming from (i.e. if you share a common wall with a neighbor who has Wi-Fi) and you can shield yourself in a variety of ways. You can protect yourself from HF radiation by shielding close to the source, whereas with LF radiation you need to shield all around you as the pattern of radiation is wider and just shielding at the source is inadequate.

Also, our Shielding Fleece, HNV80, shields from LF and HF electrical fields. To complement this, you should also use MCL61 Shielding Film to block the magnetic fields; this way both electrical and magnetic fields are taken care of. These solutions also need to be grounded as well, which can easily be done with a grounding plate or one of our grounding sets.  To ground the MCL61, the grounding set MCL consists of 10 screws that hammer into each strip and are connected by a wire connector that ushers the harmful radiation our into a grounding plate that is connected to the wall nearby. Effective and simple.

If your home is already constructed, you can block the HF EMF fields with our HSF series paints. The paint must also be grounded to conduct the electricity out. The Grounding Set ESW and Grounding Strap EB2 are designed specifically with this purpose in mind as they are effective and discreet looking.

What kind of Personal Protection items does EMR Shielding Solutions offer?

We offer a variety of different Personal Protection items. As a simple solution to protect you from your high frequency radiation emitting cell phone, we would recommend the Silverell Cellphone Protection Card. It is a small protection shield that you can insert into your phone case or place between you and your pocket to shield your body.

Another great item worth looking at is the EMF shielding fitted bed sheet TL160 with one our bed Canopies to shield your bed even further. It is worth shielding your bed to make it an EMF free area to be protected whilst you sleep.

The EMF Headgear is a great alternative to your usual hat and protects you while you’re out and about in areas with high HF and LF frequencies that are not moderated.  This headgear can be worn in several ways: as a cap or as protection of nose, mouth and neck or for a complete protection of the head by using 2 pieces. Silver-Elastic is very flexible and perfectly adapting to the shape of the head. Due to the high content of silver, Silver-Elastic is very durable and has an excellent attenuation of 50 dB.

The most crucial piece one should own is our EMF Hoodie. Its benefits, convenience and protection are undeniable.  It is made of high quality fabric called Silver-Elastic and is very stretchy, soft and comfortable. It fits each body shape easily, is not visible through outer clothing. It is also electrically conductive on both sides which is why low-frequency fields will connect less and can be conducted away more easily. Many electrosensitive people give priority to covetable fabrics that are groundable and it is more than suitable for business trips, being out or simply relaxing at home.

Does washing EMF Fabrics or EMF Canopies diminish their attenuation qualities?

The fabrics and canopies should be washed gently and air dried to maintain its effective qualities. The attenuation levels will not diminish, but as some fabrics contains silver or copper, they may discolor slightly; this does NOT mean that it loses its protection effects.

How can I shield myself from a Pacemaker?

LF radiation is emitted from chainsaws and automotive alternators, I would advise you to hold the device as far away from your body as possible. We also offer fabrics that shield against LF radiation such as LF Silver Well which is a elastic jersey fabric that has an attenuation of 5dB at 1GHz. It is can be used in almost any application including bedding, covering grounding areas, clothing and much more. It is breathable and soft and is easily washed with TEXCARE detergent and can be processed and ironed.

What is the difference between the Trifield 50Hz Meter and the Trifield 60Hz Meter?

The 50Hz version is meant to be used in Europe and the 60Hz version is for North American users. However, if you have the 60Hz version and you want to use it in Europe, you can multiply the results by 1.2 for an accurate reading.

What is “dirty electricity”?

Electrical pollution, otherwise known as “dirty electricity” is a term used to describe a type of electrical phenomenon occurring worldwide.

An example of how dirty electricity is created stems from how cell phone towers utilize energy. The towers operate on direct current. However, the electrical current supplied to the tower is in the form of an alternating current; therefore, the supply needs to be changed or converted. This is accomplished using an inverter. Inverters interrupt the alternating current and are a source of dirty electricity. This dirty electricity is put back into the power supply lines, which in turn, can enter a building through their electrical wiring.

Dirty electricity is everywhere. Limiting or avoiding exposure to dirty electricity is beneficial for everyone, avoiding sickness in the first place.

Does the earth produce EMF?

Yes, electric fields are produced by atmospheric conditions including air turbulence and thunderstorms. Magnetic fields of strengths up to 500 mG are probably the result of electric currents within the earth's molten core. However, since these are DC or static fields, their potential interaction with the human body would be different. Rather the point of these guidelines is to make certain that exposures to EMF do not cause electric currents or fields in the body that are stronger than the ones produced naturally by the brain, nerves and heart.”

How much EMF does a power line give off?

All overhead and underground power lines produce electric and magnetic fields. EMF is dependent upon line voltage, loads and current in a power line. The fields are highest directly under/over the power line and quickly become weaker as one moves away from the center line. The field levels are dependent on a number of factors, so if it is difficult to give one typical level. If you would like information about a specific power line, contact your local electrical utility company.

Is living near a transformer a problem?

In regards to transformers on poles and on the ground in residential neighborhoods, the risk is minimal. The magnetic field is very high close to these units but the farther away you are, the risk decreases. At 4 to 5 feet away, the level is acceptable. However, the wires attached to it and spanning outward produce fields that may not drop off as quickly.

What is the difference between electric and magnetic fields?

Here's the simple answer. Electric and magnetic fields are present wherever electricity is in use. At power line frequencies, they exist as separate forces with unique properties, but are often collectively (and inaccurately) referred to as electromagnetic fields.

An electric field is present wherever electricity is present, even though no current is flowing (no electricity is in use). Its strength is proportional to the voltage of the electrical supply, and is measured in volts per meter. An electric field is blocked or substantially reduced by intervening structures, including trees and most common building materials.

magnetic field is present only when electric current is flowing (electricity is in use). Its strength is proportional to the amount of current flowing, and is measured in a number of different units, of which milligauss is the most common in the United States. A magnetic field is not substantially reduced by most shielding materials.

Do airplanes create EMF pollution? How can I protect myself?

Unless you’re traveling through a remote rural area—by bike, feet, or a horse, you are subject to the health risks from electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and magnetic radiation!

Airplanes create enormous and dangerous electromagnetic radiation.  These harmful fields can layer, one upon the other, creating a toxic soup of radiation. While the electrical component of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) can be shielded, the magnetic fields that are part of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) penetrate concrete, steel and human bodies. Random measurements taken inside planes in-flight reveal dangerous radiation, sometimes exceeding 50 mG (compare that with .5-2.5 mG, the amount the EPA deems safe.) The highest radiation levels are generally found near the walls and floors.

Magnetic fields in aircraft are generated from many sources:
-Radar from the ground as well as the plane and other planes
-The jet engine itself
-Cockpit computers
-Electronic sensors
-Communications equipment
-Electrical wiring throughout the cabin
-High levels of static electricity generated in the fuselage
-Radiation from the commercial transport of radioactive materials

You can easily protect yourself with the EMF Hoodie and Silver Elastic Headgear. Another simple shielding solution would be to use the EMF Protection Blanket whilst you are on the plane as well.

I am planing to apply adhesive shielding film to my window. I was advised though that it is really difficult, any hints?

The RF Shielding window film that we are using is the RDF72, with a shielding effectiveness is 99.94% (32db) and the light transmission is 72%.
It is hard to understand the installation steps from written description, therefore, we are referring you to a video that was created by the Window Film company.

What is EMF radiation?

EMF raidation is generated from electromagnetic fields, which are formed as a result of operation of power lines, home wiring, airport and military radar, substations, transformers, computers, appliances and other electrical utilities.

Is EMF radiation harmful?

Depending on its volume and severity, EMF radiation, may have life-damaging effects upon our energy system, meaning we will have a consequential physical, neurological or immune response. Some experts are convinced that the threat is real. For example. Sweden's National Board for Industrial and Technical (NUTEK), formally announced that it would “act on the assumption that there is a connection between exposure to power frequency magnetic fields and cancer, in particular childhood cancer”. A draft report on EMF exposure guidelines for extremely low frequency electrical and magnetic fields by the US National Council in Radiation Protection also acknowledges the danger and admits that disturbance of the normal energy rythm is recognised as a basic factor in a broad spectrum of human degenerative disorders, including coronary artery disease, breast cancer, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, and ageing. Elevated elevels of EMF may also cause brain tumors, leukemia, birth defects, miscarriages, chronic fatigue, headaches, cataracts, heart problems, stress. nausea, chest pain, forgetfulness, cancer and other health problems.

What EMF Level Is Safe?

There's a heated debate as to what EMF level is considered safe. Since the experts have not come to a consensus, you'll have to decide for yourself... Many government and utility documents report the usual ambient level of 60-Hz magnetic field to be 0.5 mG. After more than 25 years of intensive study, the health and safety conscious Swedish government has established a safety limit for exposure to ELF magnetic field at 2.5 mG, and VLF magnetic fields at only 0.25 mG. Although the U.S. government has been slower to act in establishing its own standards, the Swedish standard is generally accepted throughout the world. What this possibly means is that if someone consistently experiences exposure which exceeds the standard, that person could be at risk for developing health problems which can range from headaches, fatigue, and dizziness to skin rashes, miscarriage, leukemia, and cancer.

How can I prudently avoid exposure to radiation?

Measure your home, work and school environments with a Trifield ® Meter both inside and outside your home. Don't let your children play near power lines, transformers, radar domes and microwave towers. Avoid areas where the field is above 2.5 mG. Measure the EMFs from appliances both when they are operating and when they are turned off. Some appliances (like TVs) are still drawing current even when they are off. Don't sleep under an electric blanket or on a waterbed. If you insist on using these, unplug them before going to bed (don't just turn it off). Even though there is no magnetic field when they are turned off, there may still be a high electric field. Don't sit too close to your TV set. Distance yourself at least 6 feet away. Use a Gauss meter to help you decide where it is safe to sit. Rearrange your office and home area so that you are not exposed to EMFs from the sides/backs of electric appliances and computers. In the home, it is best that all major electrical appliances, such as computers, TVs, refrigerators etc, be placed up against outside walls. That way you are not creating an EMF field in the adjoining room. Don't sit too close to your computer. Computer monitors vary greatly in the strength of their EMFs, so you should check yours with a meter. Don't stand close to your microwave oven. Move all electrical appliances at least 6 feet from your bed. Eliminate wires running under your bed. Eliminate dimmers and 3-way switches. Be wary of cordless appliances such as electric toothbrushes and razors. You may choose not to wear a quartz-analog watch because it radiates pulsating EMFs along your acupuncture meridians. An older mechanical windup watch would be an acceptable alternative. It is also recommended to wear as little jewelry as possible and to take it off at night. Many people have metal sensitivity which can be aggravated by placing it right on the skin. Measure with a Trifield ® Meter to be sure. And last, but not least, always always always remember that EMFs pass right through walls. The EMF you are reading on your Trifield ® Meter could be radiating from the next room...or from outside your home.

Which equipment should I use if I am checking for radiation around a cell tower, smart meter, a wi-fi network or cordless phones?

You should use a meter that caters to High-Frequency radiation or and RF meter. For an inspection, we strongly recomment our HF32D or HF35C.

Which equipment should I use to measure the electromagnetic fields from power transmission lines, transformers, any electrical wiring or low frequency emitting sources?

To combat any of these Low Frequency (LF) radiation sources, we strongly recommend some of our best sellers, the Trifield Meter, ME3030B or ME3080B. Transmission lines around condominiums are proving to be real hazardous sources of Low Frequency electromagnetic radiation and it's imperative to use one of these meters.

How do I apply shielding paint?

To achieve a constant high attenuation, it is important to apply shielding paint with equal thickness using a first-class paint roller. Do not skip any areas. Always soak the first class paint roller with the equal amount of paint and try to coat equal surfaces. Allow to dry for 24 hours. In order to protect the shielding layer against mechanical damage and humidity, we recommend covering it with two final top coats. Use high quality, good covering, plastic bonded dispersion emulsion paints or pure mineral paints with excellent adhesion. Don't use pure mineral bonded coatings with clay, loam or chalk.

What is the coverage area for shielding paint?

In general 1 Litre of paint is enough to cover 81 sq. Feet

How do I dispose of expired EMF Paint?

Empty paint containers should be recycled. Dried up leftovers of paint can be disposed of in household waste. Bring liquid leftovers of paint to waste collection centers. Do not dispose of in sink, water, or ground! Dispose in accordance with all applicable regulations. Avoid discharge to natural waters.
